About the National Park Authority
The Bannau Brycheiniog National Park Authority (BBNPA) is the organisation responsible for managing and protecting the National Park.
What is our purpose?
The Bannau Brycheiniog National Park Authority is the organisation responsible for managing and protecting the National Park. Our role is to conserve and enhance its natural beauty, wildlife and cultural heritage while also helping people to enjoy and understand what makes the Park special. Alongside this, we have a duty to support the social and economic well-being of the communities who live and work within the Park boundary.
How do we work?
Our administrative area covers parts of 9 of Unitary Authorities. We are the planning authority, while the Unitary Authorities retain responsibility for all other local government services within their areas of the park. The Authority’s business is conducted in accordance with a number of regulations and protocols.
Who are we?
The Authority is made up of members who are responsible for setting policies and making key decisions. Some members are appointed by the Welsh Government, while others are nominated by the local authorities whose areas fall within the Park. This combination brings both national perspectives and local knowledge to the decision-making process. Members meet through formal committees that focus on different areas, including planning, policy, audit and scrutiny. Agendas, papers and minutes are published in advance, and meetings are open to the public to ensure openness and transparency.

What is our mission?
Looking ahead, the Authority is guided by the Park’s Management Plan, Dyfodol y Bannau, which sets out priorities for the coming decade. The plan focuses on nature recovery, responding to climate change, supporting communities and promoting cultural heritage. Through this work we aim to ensure that the National Park remains a living landscape where people and nature can thrive together, now and in the future.
