Nature Recovery Action Plan (NRAP)
The Nature Recovery Action Plan is our shared roadmap for tackling the nature crisis and restoring ecosystems across Bannau Brycheiniog
A shared plan for nature’s future
The Nature Recovery Action Plan (NRAP) sets out how Bannau Brycheiniog National Park will respond to the nature and climate emergencies. It identifies the key challenges facing our landscapes, wildlife and communities, and creates a clear framework for action over the coming years. The plan is rooted in partnership, bringing together the Authority, landowners, communities, volunteers and organisations to deliver lasting change.

Why the plan matters
Biodiversity across Wales has been in long-term decline, and the Park is no exception. Species-rich grasslands, ancient woodlands and upland habitats are under pressure from climate change, intensive land use and invasive species. NRAP provides the focus needed to reverse these declines, setting out priorities for restoring habitats, supporting wildlife, and building resilience into our ecosystems.
Working together
No single organisation can recover nature alone. NRAP emphasises collaboration, drawing on the knowledge of farmers, graziers, conservation bodies, schools and local groups. It aligns with national and Welsh Government strategies, but also reflects the distinct character of Bannau Brycheiniog and the needs of the people who live and work here. Community involvement is central, ensuring that everyone has a role to play in shaping a healthier future for nature.
Looking ahead
The plan is is a commitment to action. Projects under NRAP include peatland restoration, woodland creation, species protection and support for sustainable farming. By integrating these actions with cultural heritage and community well-being, the plan ensures that nature recovery benefits both people and wildlife. Success will be measured not only in improved habitats and species numbers, but in the stronger connections people feel to the natural world around them.
