Our Work
Through conservation, heritage, education and community projects, we bring people and nature together to care for the Park and shape its future.
What is our Work?
The role of the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park Authority is to care for the Park on behalf of everyone who lives in, works in and visits it. Our work covers conservation, planning, education, tourism, community support and heritage. Everything we do is guided by the statutory purposes of National Parks: To conserve and enhance natural beauty, wildlife and cultural heritage; to promote opportunities for people to understand and enjoy the Park’s special qualities; we also have a duty to foster the economic and social well-being of local communities.
Looking After a Very Special Place
Bannau Brycheiniog National Park is cared for and supported by a wide network of stakeholders, including wardens, volunteers, local communities, farmers, partner organisations, staff and board members. The National Park Authority provides strategic coordination across this network to strengthen biodiversity, conserve habitats, enhance landscape resilience and enable sustainable livelihoods for those who live and work within the Park, now and in the future.
Nature & Conservation
Looking after the natural environment is at the heart of what we do. From restoring peat bogs and planting new woodlands to protecting rivers and grasslands, our work tackles the climate and nature emergencies head on. These projects are delivered in partnership with farmers, landowners, volunteers and conservation bodies, ensuring that the Park’s habitats and species are cared for in ways that benefit both nature and people.
Heritage & Culture
Bannau Brycheiniog is rich in history, from prehistoric cairns and medieval castles to traditional farmsteads and industrial remains. We work to conserve this heritage through planning advice, conservation areas and community-led projects. By protecting and celebrating these places, we keep the story of the Park alive and make sure that future generations can learn from and enjoy it.
Conserving Heritage
Learning & Community
The Park is a place of learning as well as living. Our education programmes support schools and colleges through outdoor learning, Ambassador Schools and dedicated resources for teachers. At the same time, we support community initiatives through schemes such as the Sustainable Development Fund, helping groups develop projects that strengthen local culture, promote sustainability and build resilience.
Together for the Future
The challenges facing the Park cannot be solved by one organisation alone. That is why we work with communities, businesses, volunteers and partner organisations to deliver projects that make a difference. Together we are building a resilient future, where the landscapes, wildlife and heritage of Bannau Brycheiniog are protected and celebrated as part of daily life.
