Policies
Planning decisions in Bannau Brycheiniog are guided by national legislation and by policies that apply specifically to the Park. Download the relevant documents below.
The Local Development Plan
The Local Development Plan, often called the LDP, is the central planning document for the National Park. It sets out the long-term strategy for land use, covering issues such as housing, employment, renewable energy and conservation. The current plan was adopted in 2013 and runs until 2022, and work is now under way on a new version that will set the strategy for 2025 to 2045. Until the new plan is adopted, the existing LDP remains the main reference point for planning decisions.
Supplementary Planning Guidance
Alongside the LDP, the Authority publishes Supplementary Planning Guidance. These documents provide more detail on specific topics such as affordable housing, biodiversity, farm diversification, design and light pollution. They help applicants understand how broad policies are applied in practice and are an important part of assessing planning applications.
Supplementary Planning GuidanceAnnual Monitoring Report
Every year the Authority publishes an Annual Monitoring Report which tracks how the Local Development Plan is being delivered. The report measures progress against targets, assesses whether policies are effective, and highlights areas where changes may be needed. This regular review ensures that planning remains responsive and evidence-based.
