Wales Outdoor Learning Week

Wales Outdoor Learning Week is an annual celebration of learning outside the classroom, giving schools and groups the chance to explore nature, build skills and connect with the outdoors.

What it’s about

Each spring, schools and groups across Wales take part in Outdoor Learning Week. The event encourages teachers and learners to use outdoor spaces as part of everyday education, supporting the Curriculum for Wales while promoting health, well-being and environmental awareness.

Activities in the National Park

In Bannau Brycheiniog we run a range of activities during Outdoor Learning Week, from curriculum-linked sessions in our Learning Centres to guided walks, workshops and community events. These activities are designed to help pupils experience the outdoors first-hand and develop literacy, numeracy and digital skills through real-world challenges.

Why it matters

Outdoor learning supports well-being, builds confidence and creates lasting connections with nature. It also helps schools meet curriculum goals in innovative ways, encouraging creativity and problem-solving while deepening understanding of the natural environment.
